Federal Perkins Loan Service Cancellation
Perkins Loan Cancellation Forms vary depending on the school attended when awarded–see your schools website for information on obtaining the aforementioned form.

Cancellation benefits are available to Perkins Loan borrowers who work full-time in an eligible position for a full year (or equivalent). Unless identified otherwise, the cancellation rates are:
- First year, 15%
- Second year, 15%
- Third year, 20%
- Fourth year, 20%
- Fifth year, 30%
Teaching at a public or non-profit school plus at least one of the following criteria:
- teaching in a school on the federal list of schools with a high percentage of low income families
- teaching infants, toddlers, children or youth with disabilities
- teaching mathematics, sciences, foreign languages, ESL or a field determined by the state to have a shortage
- teaching the educational part of a state licensed or regulated pre-school or Head Start program qualifies for 15% per year
Librarian or Speech Pathologist Cancellation
A librarian or speech pathologist that has a master’s degree and works exclusively with Title I-eligible schools.
Early Intervention Services Cancellation
Professionals working in a public or nonprofit program with infants and toddlers under 3 years old with disabilities.
Law Enforcement Cancellation
Law enforcement or corrections officers, public defenders or district attorneys for a local, State or Federal agency.
Health Care Service Cancellation
Nurses or medical technicians providing primary health care services.
Service to High Risk Children and their Families Cancellation
Professionals working for a child or family agency that is providing or supervising the provision of services to high risk children and their families from low income communities.
Firefighters employed by a federal, state or local firefighting agency.
Volunteer Service Cancellation
Up to 70% may be cancelled for volunteer service to the Peace Corp or an organization created under the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973. The cancellation rate is the same, but ends after 4 years.
Up to 50% at the rate of 12.5% per year may be cancelled for each year of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States serving in an area of hostilities as defined in Section 310 of Title 37 of the United States Code.
